PV Pirates Road Rallye to kick off the 18th Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA -- September 10, 2010 - On Saturday September 18, racing legends Parnelli Jones and Andy Granatelli - in Parnelli's schoolbus yellow 2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang - will lead more than 100 cars in the Pirates of PV Road Rallye from the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes to Vic's Garage in Torrance, to kick off a weekend of automotive events that concludes with the 18th annual Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, September 19.

The Rallye starts at 1 p.m. at Trump National and ends at Vic Edelbrock's in Torrance where it segues into Grand Marshal Granatelli's Oktoberfest (4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.) German food by Cego's Cafe and music will be augmented by a silent auction that includes:

* Two tickets and two pit passes to the 2011 Centennial Indianapolis 500 as guests of Andy Granatelli.

* A weekend vintage racing trip for two with a vintage racing owner/driver that includes private jet air travel, ground transportation, lodging, meals and more. The successful bidder can choose from Laguna Seca, Sears Point, or Thunderhill Raceway Park.

* Four United Air Lines tickets to anywhere in the USA.

On Sunday, September 19 the Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance will transform Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes into a stage for more than 200 of the world's most valuable vehicles. Collectors will compete in 24 classes for coveted trophies, 12 of them for German vehicles. This year's theme is German, with Mercedes-Benz as the featured marquee.

Several entries were once owned by celebrities, including a 1927 Phantom I, once owned by Fred Astaire, a 1956 Jaguar XKSS that belonged to Steve McQueen, a 1926 Lincoln five-passenger Cabriole that once had Jack Warner of Warner Brothers at the wheel, and a red-and-black 1938 Bugatti Atalante coupe, designed by the company founder's son, Jean Bugatti,

Noteworthy German cars include an 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, a 1911 Benz open tourer, a 1935 rear engine Mercedes-Benz, a 1955 Wartburg convertible, and a 1975 Trabant.

Added attractions include Restoration Alley, where craftsmen will demonstrate their skills, test drives in Mercedes-Benz AMG sedans, a race car simulator, a boutique marketplace, a variety of food and beverages, and show cars including Parnelli Jones' 1967 Indianapolis 500 STP turbine racer and the new AMG SLS gullwing.
