Outlaws to Invade 'The Springfield Mile' SPRINGFIELD, IL (June 1) - Sammy Swindell put on a dominant performance when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series returned to Illinois State Fair Speedway for the first time in 15 years last June. Swindell received the Vivarin Fast-Time Award after setting the qualifying standard at "The Springfield Mile," then won the First Racing Champions Heat Race, the Channellock Dash and the "A" Feature. "The Channellock car ran great today," Sammy said. "We didn't have to overextend ourselves; we just ran a nice and easy pace." Swindell continued that pace en route to his third World of Outlaws championship. Despite a slow start this season, Sammy has picked up the pace recently with top-five finishes in five of the last six main events, including a victory at Hagerstown Speedway. He would like to catch Mark Kinser in the point standings and win a second straight "A" Feature when the series returns to Illinois State Fair Speedway Sunday. As an added attraction, Kenny Schrader will compete in the UMP Modified race. The gates will open at 10 a.m., and the first race is scheduled for 1 p.m. For more information, call 217-764-5418, 217-764-3200 and 217-782-1979 on race day.
