“I couldn’t be happier” was Pietro’s reaction after topping the podium in all three races at Snetterton. With nine wins out of 11 in the Protyre Formula Renault Championship, Pietro Fittipaldi now leads with 338 points, 70 points ahead of MGR Motorsport teammate, Matteo Ferrer.

After claiming P3 on a damp track for race one of the weekend, the challenge was set to prove himself and retain his winning streak. Pietro stormed ahead of the competition and took a comfortable win setting the stage for round 11.

We were pushing hard and in this championship, you have only one set of tires for the entire weekend.

With Fortec Motorsport’s Alex Gill sacrificing his pole advantage thanks to an untimely stall on the line, Pietro seized the opportunity to take the lead in the weekend’s second race. With track ahead clear, Pietro took full advantage of the opportunity and demonstrated his racing prowess, finishing over seven seconds clear of Scorpio Motorsport’s Piers Hickin, who went on to claim second place.

Round 12 proved the toughest challenge of the weekend, with Alex Gill showing he’s not to be discounted after piling on the pressure from his P3 start. However, Pietro held his nerve and pole position with Gill stuck firmly on his tail. After taking the top spot in the final race, Pietro admitted it was the most challenging yet “We were pushing hard and in this championship, you have only one set of tires for the entire weekend. So in the final race, the tires were really worn and I was having to drive the car sideways all the time. I was trying not to make mistakes with the other guy right behind me and I was going all over the place as well.”

With rounds 12 and 13 at Croft in three weeks, Pietro Fittipaldi will be focusing on maintaining his composure and working with his team to extend his lead and seal championship victory.
