Cosmo, Stewart and Gilbert to Pilot Apple Motorsports SGS Porsche

(West Palm Beach, FL - June 17, 2004) New York native Guy Cosmo will join Apple Motorsports' drivers Gary Stewart and Bob Gilbert in the #92 Apple Automotive Group SGS Porsche at Watkins Glen International Raceway, June 20, 2004. The six-hour contest will be Cosmo's first Grand American Rolex Series SGS class start. Cosmo, a young open-wheel champion driver, made his Grand American Series debut in 2003 in the Daytona Prototype class. Guy admits that it will be very different to race in the SGS class GT3 Porsche.

"I'm thrilled to race again in the Rolex Series and thank Gary Stewart from Apple Motorsports for the opportunity," said Cosmo. "At last year's six-hour I was at the top of the food chain racing a Daytona Prototype, whereas the SGS class will require a different task with the faster classes passing through. This is the first event for Apple Motorsports with this GT3-Cup car, and our task is survival.

"I'm looking forward to bringing my past experiences to the team, but I'm excited about gaining more experience in the GT3-Cup Porsche. Porsche has always been the dominant car in GT endurance racing. I race one in now in Grand Am Cup with BGB Motorsports, and the addition of this event with Apple Motorsports will make me a more well-rounded driver in the world of Porsches. Besides, the car is a lot of fun to drive."

Guy Cosmo's addition to the Apple Motorsports lineup also marks a reunion with Team Manager Mike Goss. Goss was Cosmo's Crew Chief when Guy dominated the Star Mazda Series on his way to winning the 2002 series championship. The reunion, however, was not by design.

"Apple Motorsports' goal is to prepare for the Rolex 24 at Daytona as well the complete 2005 season," explained Goss. "This is our kickoff. We partnered with an experienced knowledgeable team, BGB Motorsports, for logistics and crew. It just happens that Guy is one of their drivers. For testing it was a natural. We can put someone in the car with tons of experience to get this car up to speed. Guy gives great feedback and is easy to work with. He makes me better at what I do and with his input I can enhance what we do on the track."

The Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen airs live on Speed Channel, Saturday, June 20 beginning at 11:00 AM EST.
