Berlin/Daytona Beach (rol/ot) The Motor sports year 2014 starts with a premiere for the German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke. The Berlin, who takes on his seventh season in a row as Aston Martin works driver, will be on start at the 24 hour race in Daytona Beach (US state of Florida) on Saturday (25th of January) for the first time.
The 32 year old will share the cockpit of the Vantage GTE V8 of the Team Aston Martin Racing with the Englishman Darren Turner. Turner and Mücke finished third (GT drivers) last year at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Both also will share the cockpit with Pedro Lamy (Portugal), Richie Stanaway (New Zealand) and Paul Dalla Lana (Canada).
The Daytona International Speedway certainly is no new terrain for Stefan Mücke, because he has been on this track at the test drives on the 3rd and 4th of January this year and earlier already at the beginning of 2008. The Berlin had his Oval trial for America in a prototype one year after his entry into the sports car scene. "In the banked curves of the trioval, which are components of the 24 hour race, you could only see a wall at a speed of about 300km/h. It has been really impressive to drive through these curves with full speed“, Stefan Mücke said.It won’t be that rapid for the Berlin this time in the Vantage, but he will take part at the 52nd edition of the "Rolex 24 At Daytona“, where motor sports history will be written. Because this will be the first race of the new American TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, which is the result of the combine of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). "I am really looking forward to the race and the environment in Daytona Beach“, Stefan Mücke said, who was rewarded as motor sports driver of the year 2013 in the ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg as well as with the Herbert-Schultze memorial prize of the Scuderia Avus.
The Berlin wants to score a podium placing at the 24 hours of Daytona together with his four team colleagues. "We will be on start with our slightly modified WEC race cars of last year in the GT Le Mans class with at least ten combatants – in between them a few drivers of the WEC. This will certainly become a thrilling event“, Stefan Mücke said, who will be on start again at the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2014 as well as in different other long track races in a GT3 race car.
