INDIANAPOLIS - Just past halfway, Ed Carpenter attempted to pass Oriol Servia as they raced down into the first corner. Servia came down on the CFHR driver and both went spinning into the wall.
Whle their cars were towed away and they were transported to the infield care center (where they have since been checked, cleared and released), the field came down pit road. In a matter of moments, 2/3rds of the Dale Coyne Racing fleet would be taken out of the race.
Three Coyne cars collide, two crew members injured
James Davison was exiting his pit as teammate Pippa Mann was coming by on the outside lane. Davison hit Mann’s car, which shot his machine into the right front of teammate Tristian Vautier’s car, which was still getting serviced.
Two crew members were hit and a stretcher was moved to the Dale Coyne Racing pits as Vautier and Davison climbed out of their cars. We do not yet know the condition of the two crew members (Incident Video).
“I got sent out there at the same time Pippa was coming, we made contact and it sent me into their second team car and all three DCR cars made contact and took me and Tristian out, it was a very unfortunate situation,” Davison told TV.
This is not the first time Dale Coyne Racing has had issues in the pits this year, involving crew members. At the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana, Francesco Dracone spun in his pits, taking out his chief mechanic. Series officials will investigate the incident, after the race.
