Sellers continues early-season dominance with 2nd straight Late Model win at South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. -- Peyton Sellers went for a Sunday afternoon drive one day early at South Boston Speedway.

Sellers, who resides in Danville, Va., started from the pole position after tallying a time trial run of 15.531 seconds and then led every lap to motor to a triumph in a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division.

The win was the second straight for Sellers, who also won last week's season-opening NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event at South Boston. To date, Sellers has led all 300 laps of Late Model racing action that has been run at South Boston.

Saturday afternoon's Late Model Stock Car Division race was the featured attraction of the March Mayhem racing program.

The only thing that slowed Sellers from piling up huge advantages over his challengers throughout the event were seven caution periods and one red-flag session. Even so, Sellers, on two occasions during the race, opened up leads of, at least, one-half of a straightaway.

David Triplett, Jr. of Durham, N.C. started second and maintained that position throughout the race, while fourth-place starter Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. collected a third-place finish. Ramsey inherited the third spot on the track when Brandon Butler dropped out of the top three with mechanical woes with just over 50 laps remaining.

Late Model Stock Car rookie Jonathan Cash, who finished second in the Limited Sportsman points chase last year at South Boston, motored from a 10th-place starting position to finish fourth at the finish line, while Scott Worley of Long Island, Va. rounded out the top five.

Sellers may have dominated the top position throughout the race, but there were some tight battles for position from places fourth through 10th over the course of the 150-lap event.

Drew Herring of Benson, N.C. wound up with a six-place run in the 24-car field, while Jason Dickerson of Ruckersville, Va. placed seventh. Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. claimed the eighth slot for the event, while Ernest Winslow of Scotland Neck, N.C. and Owen Miller of Emporia, Va. rounded out the top 10 competitors.

Snow breaks qualifying record, scores another Limited Sportsman victory

Justin Snow of Danville, Va. is on a roll in the Limited Sportsman Division ranks.

After winning the season-opening event for the division last week, Snow went a step further Saturday afternoon.

Snow broke the track's qualifying record for the division with a time trial lap of 15.987 seconds. From there, Snow proved to be dominant leading all 50 laps to secure a victory.

Danny Willis, Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. finished second in the 18-car field after moving up one spot with nine laps to go when the car of Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. suffered engine problems following the fifth and final caution period of the race.

Defending division champion Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. placed third for the day and was followed in the fourth slot by Andrew Perry of Hillsborough.

Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. collected a fifth-place finish for day, while Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va. finished sixth. John Moore of Pelham, N.C. secured seventh place, while Jason Pittman of Chester, Va. rounded out the top eight drivers in the field.

Philip Woods of Good, Va. tallied a ninth-place run in the event, while Timmy Langford of Amelia, Va. posted a 10th-place finish.

Taylor claims win in caution-plagued Allison Legacy Series event

Sixteen-year-old Adam Taylor of Lillington, N.C. grabbed the lead on the 34th circuit of the 50-lap race for the touring Allison Legacy Series and led the rest of the way to secure a victory.

Trevor Bayne of Knoxville, Tenn. placed second in the 28-car field and was followed in the top five by Jordan Napier of London, Kent. in third, Anthony Giugliano of Lexington, S.C. in fourth and Brad Griffin of Cornelius, N.C. in the fifth slot.

The race was slowed by seven caution periods. Race officials had to begin counting caution laps in the race, which lasted just over 45 minutes, during the fifth yellow-flag session.

Goens blisters field in 25-lap Legends Series event

Craig Goens, Jr. started from the pole position and was never threatened Saturday as he cruised to victory in the 25-lap race for the touring Legends Series competitors.

Goens was nearly one-half of a track ahead of his closest challenger when the race's second caution flag fell just two laps shy of the end of the event.

Despite having his lead negated, Goens jumped out strong on the restart to take the checkered flag first in the 22-car field.

Duncan Molesworth wound up with a second-place run for the day, while Cameron Patrick, who started from the 20th slot, roared to a third-place finish at the end. Outside pole sitter Ryan Ellis finished fourth in the final rundown, while Tiffany Daniels rounded out the top five finishers..

Southern Vintage Modified victory posted by Randy Smith

Randy Smith started out front and stayed out front in claiming a win in the 25-lap race for the touring Southern Vintage Modified Series.

Smith grabbed the pole position for the race with a qualifying lap of 16.286 seconds.

Darryl Lacks finished second in the 11-car field, while Donnie Lacks posted a third-place run and Benny Franklin wound up in fourth place.
