BAYTOWN, Tex- Local Federal Mogul Dragster driver Lee Callaway of Channelview, Texas fell at the hands of series points leader Jay Meyer in the first round of the O'Reilly Nationals presented by Pennzoil this weekend at Houston Raceway Park. Callaway ran a 5.878/240.25, but it wasn't enough for Meyer's 5.625/253.90. Tireshake and an exploded burst panel were the main factors to Callaway's early exit.
Callaway missed Friday's two qualifying sessions due to problems in the fuel system, and qualified 11th on Saturday morning's last qualifying shot with a 5.745/239.23.
"We missed the first two qualifying shots, and just got it down the track for the last session. The problem Friday was a bad fuel pump, and some fuel lines that were sucking air. We had to run Meyer in the first round, and we knew he was going to be tough, so I leaned on her pretty hard, evidently too hard," said Callaway.
Callaway's next race will be the fourth stop on the Division 4 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series at State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Callaway will be looking to improve on his current fourth place standing in the division.
"Right now we are just ten points out of third place behind Troy Buff. We would like to pick our performance up a notch, and get ahead of Buff in the standings," Callaway said.
