Hunsaker, Carmody share Irwindale spotlight.
Sprint Cars return to Madera Saturday.

Todd Hunsaker of Chino Hills, Calif. and Chris Carmody of Valencia, Calif. scored USAC feature victories in racing action Saturday at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. Each emerged as the series point leader in their respective racing series.

Hunsaker and Carmody will be idle this week as the USAC Western Sprint Cars, led by Rick Hendrix, visit the Madera (Calif.) Speedway for a program which also offers USAC Western Regional Sprint Car points. Bryan Bullard currently leads the Western Regional Sprint Car standings. A 50-lap feature is on tap at the 1/3-mile paved oval.

Hunsaker scored his second consecutive victory in the USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series with his 20-lap win at Irwindale's 1/3-mile pavement Saturday. He passed J.J. Ercse on the fifth lap and led the rest of the way to beat Garrett Hansen, Bobby Owens, Steve Davis and Wayne McCormick. Hunsaker leads Phil Goodwine by 23 points going into a May 18 race at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif.

Carmody caught pole starter Scott Speed on lap 13 and led the rest of the 60-lap distance around Irwindale's 1/2-mile paved oval. Victor Hugo Queiroz of Brazil finished second ahead of Speed, Jason Bowles and John Knudsen. Speed, last year's Formula Russell Champion, won the pole for the 60-lap race.
