CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA - John Martin III from Cornelius, NC, came back from a mid-race spin to win his first career Stock Car Championship Series (SCCS) feature in the "Lowe's Under the Lights" on Friday night, July 19. Martin, in a Townsend Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo, slid through the grass entering the road course section at Lowe's Motor Speedway while leading the SCCS Late Model Stock Car race.

"This was my race," Martin said in Victory Lane. "I thought I blew it when I spun out. But I had a strong car tonight."

Second place went to fastest qualifier Jeff Werth from Silver Spring, MD, in the Hi Mom Pontiac Grand Prix. Werth was another leader that slid through the infield grass while at the front of the field.

"I had problems with the clutch engaging and disengaging," Werth said. "The first time we spun down in turn one, it jumped out of gear and I lost my concentration. But, I came back."

Two-time SCCS winner, Ron Farris from Lynchburg, VA, in the Marines Chevrolet Monte Carlo was another driver that encountered problems while leading. The mechanical fuel pickup failed after Farris had led twice for four laps.

The next race on the Stock Car Championship Series is August 3-4 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, GA. The Atlanta event will be the fourth race for the first-year Late Model Stock Car road racing series based in Rocky Mount, VA.
