All Star Sprint Ohio Speedweek Race Results - Muskingum Co. Speedway - Tue. 6/29/99 By Scott Hall

ZANESVILLE, OH - Kelly Kinser came from 13th starting spot to earn a $5,000 payday in the exciting All Star sprint Ohio Speedweek 30-lap feature Tuesday night at Muskingum Co. Speedway. Kinser ran his patented bottom groove as the All Stars returned to Muskingum for the first time since 1993. His winning ride was the familiar Stealth No. 4k with Gaerte-Chevrolet power and it was Kinser’s fifth career Ohio Speedweek checkered flag. Donnie Goeden aboard his Karavan Trailers J&J started on the ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment Hot Seat pole position underneath Randy Kinser in the Franklin Power Products Maxim, with Mark Keegan and Ed Lynch, Jr. in row two and Kenny Jacobs and Monday night winner Joey Saldana in row three. R. Kinser took the initial lead with Keegan tucking in for second as Saldana took third from Goeden on lap three. K. Kinser was on a tear through the pack, eighth by lap four and up to sixth with ten laps in the record books behind R. Kinser, Keegan, Saldana, Jacobs and Frankie Kerr. As the leaders entered lapped traffic on lap 12, Keegan closed in on the leader and made an inside move in turn three to pass R. Kinser and lead lap 14. Meanwhile, K. Kinser had picked off Kerr and Jacobs and was up to fourth, passing Saldana next and getting by Keegan in the low groove coming down the front stretch to lead at the halfway point. When the only yellow of the event flew on lap 20 for a Rocky Hodges flat, K. Kinser had a two lapped car advantage for the restart over Keegan, Saldana and Jacobs. He pulled away when the green flag returned, utilizing the bottom groove of the race track, picking his way through lapped traffic and stretching his margin to a full straightaway when the checkered flag flew. Keegan ended up second, followed by Saldana in the Steve Mox Stealth, Kerr in Stan Shoff’s J&J, Jacobs in his own Eagle Chassis and 16th starting Danny Smith in the Denny Ashworth Schnee. Dean Jacobs finished seventh, earning the "Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven" award after starting 12th with Lynch, Byron Reed and Rodney Duncan filling in the top ten. "We’re happy with second," Keegan related. "Except for Friday’s at Attica, we plan to run more All Star races with this car." "I tried all the grooves," Saldana recalled of his race. "We had nothing for him (Kinser)." The United Expressline heat fell to Randy Kinser, the Southwest Expressline heat to Butch Schroeder, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Rodney Duncan and the United Specialties heat went to Chad Kemenah. Saldana won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash with James Fisher the United Expressline B Main winner and Saldana was the fast qualifier over the 40 car field. Time Trials: 1.
