August 7, 1999 From Victory Lane At Greenwood Valley . . . . By Than Mitchell

Jeff Furlong drove home the point that starting on the pole is an advantage, offering a clear track in front and a dust cloud behind. Furlong, who lives in Selinsgrove, admitted, after winning the Micro Sprint Feature at The Greenwood Valley Action Track, that his brake pedal fell off five laps into the race, and, with that exception, his "burley pit crew" did a top job in getting the car set up to win. Jason Kemp, Bloomsburg, and Joe Bednarski, Wyoming, tried to make it a race but ended up second and third as the checkered flag fell. Fourth was Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills, fifth, Blane Heimbach, Selinsgrove, while Bloomsburg's Brent Boyer placed sixth. The field was rounded out by Rick Tanner, Watsontown, Eric Heydenreich and Neil Petock, both of Bloomsburg, and David Utt, Catawissa.

In Victory Lane at the conclusion of the Rookie Micro Sprint Feature, Ross Perchak told the crowd that it was his brother, Eric and his father, Steve, who helped him prepare the car each week to do battle at The Action Track. Perchak, from Hazelton, had his hands full with two three-time winners right on his rear nerf bar. Second across the line was Ashley "Mooch" Parlett, Wye Mills, MD, who saw her division promotion slip away. Scott Lawrence, Conklin, NY, another driver hoping to pick up a fourth win, chased Perchak and Parlett across the finish line. Fourth place went to Dave Williams, Pottstown, followed by Scott Tate, Middleburg, and Chad Thomas from New Berlin. In seventh place was Scott Miller, Slatington, in eighth was Dillon Stein, Auburn, ninth, Richie Mitchell, Mortonville, and finally in tenth place was Ralph Ferraro another long distance traveller from North Plainfield, NJ.

Bring the family, visit the snack bars, and enjoy the dirt track grassroots of racing at Greenwood Valley where gates open at 3:30, and warm-ups at 5:30. See you at the races.
