FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Despite record-high temperatures nearly reaching 110 degrees, Peter Cunningham and Alfred duPont were able to put their BMWs at the top of the Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car practice charts respectively in preparation of the Grand Prix of Texas at Texas Motor Speedway. Cunningham, of W. Bend, Wis., set a blistering lap of 1:30.697 (92.245 mph) in the No. 42 RealTime Racing BMW M3–topping the lap of 1:31.415 (91.521 mph) of Bill Cooper's Les Stanford/Pirate Racing Chevrolet Corvette C5. Cunningham won the most recent Speedvision GT round in Quebec, and trails Cooper by 11 points (117-106). Terry Borcheller was third in a Saleen SR, followed by Boris Said's Ford Mustang and Jeff McMillin's BMW M3. DuPont, of Kennett Square, Pa., turned a fastest lap of 1:37.787 (85.557 mph) in his No. 51 European Racing Technologies BMW 328is, and led both the morning and afternoon sessions. Points leader Pierre Kleinubing was second quick in the BuySellorHold.com/RealTime Racing Acura Integra R, turning a lap of 1:38.498 (84.939 mph). Rookie BMW pilots Don Salama, Steve Pfeffer and Paul Alderman completed the top-five. Qualifying for Saturday's Speedvision Touring Car race and Sunday's Speedvision GT race is set to take the green Saturday morning.
