Weatherford Romps to Auburndale Late Model Win

Auburndale, FL— Capitalizing on his pole starting position, Bart Weatherford led every lap en-route to victory in the Late Model Sportsman feature Saturday night March 13th at Auburndale Speedway. From the drop of the green flag Weatherford set the pace with RJ Romano staring at the rear bumper cover of the number 1 from just a car length behind. The most spirited battle of the night was between rookie Mitch Hawk and veteran Dave Dunkin with Hawk claiming the third spot to carbon copy the finish order of heat race number 1. Dunkin would settle for fourth in spite of a close call involving Robbie and Brian Storer. Both of Storer brothers started deep in the pack and worked their way near the top five at halfway. An attempt to run three wide into turn three proved to be to much as both Storer cars slid up and into the retaining wall. Dunkin, who was in the bottom groove motored on with the right side sheet metal waving in the breeze. Defending champion Richard Elkins Jr. completed the top five.

The Dwarf Car Racing Association made their first visit to the quarter mile and Dennis Archinal also went on to the win after starting from the pole. Steve Treager and Paul Hunsberger made it a Polk County sweep of the top three positions. Allen Davis started near the tail of the pack could only muster a fourth place run and Jacksonville's Rick Lundeen rounded out the top five.

Paul Gibbs paced the Street Stock division down to the green and was the third of four pole sitters to go to Victory Lane this night. James Wright III survived the 25 lap grind to plant his number 56 into the second spot and Jeff McCaw was third. Larry Chumney and Ron Lofquist were fourth and fifth.

Starting ninth on the grid Dusty Robinson went on to the win in the Modified Mini Stock feature over defending champion Randy Storer and Jay Kaminski. Gary Brown returned action at the speedway with a fourth place run followed by Tony Elrod.

V8 Pure Stock action saw Brian Donahue dominate action in his heat race and the 15 lap feature. Greg Bacon worked through the 23 car starting field to claim second ahead of Vic Percifield. Bob Gorsuch and Carl Thompson completed the top five.

Joe Thomas started on the pole and led every lap to win the 4 Cylinder Pure Stock feature. Mark Soule advanced from his eighth starting spot to take second followed by Chris Narramore, Randy King and Hugh Williams.

Racing this Saturday March 20th features all regular divisions in action plus the Florida Legends Series. The SARA Sportsman Series will visit on the 27th joining the Kids Club and regular divisions for a night of action on the quarter mile.
