Michigan's Danny Ford Announces Plans 1999 Iceman Rookie of the Year Will Race 10 CRA Events

Salem, Ind. (March 8, 2002) - Former ARCA and Iceman competitor Danny Ford announced he plans to compete in 10 events in the CRA Sunoco Super Series in 2002. Ford will drive a Lefthander Chassis Chevrolet with sponsorship from Davenport Construction, Walt Michael's RV Center and Little Valley Homes.

"The best drivers in the Midwest are starting to crowd toward the Sunoco Super Series," said Ford. "I'm looking forward to racing against some of the best short track drivers around."

Ford, 25, has one Sunoco Super Series start that came at Plymouth Speedway in July of 2000. The Carleton, Mich., driver finished in 28th position after completing 36 laps.

Having started his racing career at Flat Rock Speedway in 1994, Ford became the youngest driver ever to win a championship at age 19. He added his second consecutive street stock championship in 1996, then advanced to the Super Late Model division where he won his first race. He produced four more wins over the next two seasons.

In 1999, Ford became a regular in the Ohio-based Iceman Series. He captured rookie of the year honors and finished 10th in the standings, winning one event at Sandusky Speedway. Ford was the second-youngest driver to win the rookie championship and the third- youngest in Iceman history to win a race.

The following year, Ford moved to the ARCA series and raced a partial schedule, eventually parting ways with his car owner. He returned to Flat Rock Speedway and finished 10th in the 2001 standings, posting one victory.

"I want to keep my nose clean and finish races," said Ford of his 2002 goals in the Sunoco Super Series. "We're capable of running up front and winning races, but the circumstances are gonna have to be right. We have to be real smart this season."

The 2002 Sunoco Super Series season opens at the quarter-mile Anderson (Ind.) Speedway on Saturday, April 20.
