SMRS "OFF" THIS WEEK, PREPARING FOR "BIG" SWING; LOYET, SHERRELL TAKE OKLAHOMA FEATURES
Matt Sherrell of Owasso, Okla. is the new leader in the USAC/SMRS Great Plains Midget Series, which is on hiatus this week preparing for its busiest weeks of the 2009 campaign.
Races expected to have a huge impact on the standings are slated between July 26 and August 1 in Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas.
Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, Mo. was the last of six feature lap leaders in Friday night's wild 20-lap race at Outlaw Motor Speedway. He took the lead from Andrew Felker on lap seven, then lost it to Jonathan Beason, then regained it on lap 17 and led the final four laps in his Loyet Landscape Maintenance/Jaz Tech Services Spike/Esslinger Ford. Beason finished second ahead of Felker, Matt Sherrell and Todd McVay. Rick England, Eric Sandage and Andrew Deal were other feature lap leaders.
Sherrell led all 20 laps to win Saturday night's USAC/SMRS Great Plains Midget race at West Siloam Speedway. Driving the Sherrell Paint & Body/Kaiser Aluminum Wheels Bullet/Esslinger Ford, Sherrell beat Beason, Loyet, Frank Flud and Eric Sandage to the checkered flag.
