Kiwi Champ to "break the Ice' in new V8 Ute Season Deal

New Zealand V8 Ute Champion Chris Pither will re-join the Australian V8 Ute racing family in the Ice-Break backed Holden VE that was driven by 2008 Champion Layton Crambrook during round one the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series -- protected by Armor All.

Pither took out the New Zealand Series in March this year and then went on to claim the Trans Tasman Challenge in what became a tight battle against Australia's Kim Jane.

The young Kiwi made his presence felt in the Australian Series in 2005, 06 and 07 for the Kanga Loaders team and again raced in March as a NZ Ute Legend in the tenth Anniversary race at Clipsal 500 with Peter Burnitt. He qualified Burnitt's car on the front row.

He dominated the 2009/10 New Zealand V8 Ute Racing Series winning 5 out of 6 rounds in the Enzed Ford, owned and mentored by long time supporter Ash Cairns.

Pither hasn't been in a Holden for a while but is excited by the challenge.

"I'm looking forward to being back in the Series, I've been out for a while now but it was good practice against the guys at Clipsal and then again at the Trans Tasman Challenge and I think I have what it takes to run up the front," said Pither.

"It will be nice to be racing in the Ice-Break Racing team alongside former Kanga Loaders teammate Gary MacDonald," explained Pither.

After an Enduro drive with Paul Morris motorsport in 2007 partnering Fabian Coulthard, Pither joined the Fujitsu Series for the remainder of the year and though there were talks of him joining the Development Series again this year, he'd like to focus on the Utes for a while.

"I'd never knock back a drive but I'd really like to focus on the Utes this year. It would be great to take out three V8 Ute titles in one year and I aim to be the first driver to do it," said Pither.

The Ice Break Holden will be prepared by Wayne Williams who has taken on an abundance of cars of late including; Gary MacDonalds Ice Break Holden, Colin Dunn and Denis Cribbin's Red Ass Mexican Ford and Nandi Kiss's Eagle Pro/Bisley Holden.

Crambrook is yet to confirm he will be competing at Winton in another V8 Ute but has asked to have his #71 kept safely on hold until he reaches a decision about his year.

Ice Break Racing Team Owner, Darren Park is pleased to have Pither on-board and wishes Crambrook a successful career.

"Layton and Ice Break have decided to go in different directions for the remainder of the season, and whilst disappointing for all parties, we wish the Crambrook's the best and we believe that Chris will do an outstanding job for the Ice Break brand, and we are all looking forward to watching his first race next weekend at Winton," said Park.

Pither will hit the track for Round 2, which will commence 14 – 16 May at Winton Raceway, with Race 1 televised live on Network Seven.
