BRIGHT WANTS REVIEW ON SOFT TYRE USE

Amazing passing today at Queensland Raceway should be enough to convince V8 Supercar officials to rethink pitting the ultra-fast soft tyre against the harder rubber as planned later this year.

Bright, who said it is hard to remember as much genuine passing as he saw today, believes rounds like Tasmania and Sandown should follow Queensland's example rather than pitting the two grades of rubber against each other.

Bright qualified 16th today and finished 11th after battles with Todd Kelly, Jason Richards, Tony D'Alberto, Fabian Coulthard and Jonathan Webb.

The next race will be at Winton Motor Raceway, Victoria in two weeks' time, where the soft-tyre-only format will continue.

"I think the soft tyre worked excellently. It did everything I said it would at the start of the weekend, creating so much more passing because of the different strategies it allowed. You could also just push harder because you had confidence in the grip. There's absolutely no need to throw the hard tyre in as well to generate that passing.

"I think you would go to this soft-tyre-only format at all the other sprint rounds for sure. Whether the organisers are prepared to change that I don't know. We'll have to wait for the fans to say what they thought but I'm sure it's much better than it's been for ages. It certainly seemed to me there was a lot more passing.

"The only time there's more passing is when the hard tyre is mixed in, but then the passing isn't genuine. The guy on hards just concedes because the difference is too great, whereas when it's only softs you are genuinely racing for position; it works much better."

"In terms of our strategy, I think car 14 ran a fraction too long and lost some pace towards the end of the second stint. That meant Jason had some ground to make up in the last section of the race. He managed to run down a few of the cars at the end and it made for an exciting race."
