Gold Cup Race of Champions Night ...

Gold Cup Race of Champions Night #2: Meyers holds on to take the Gold Cup points lead

Today Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing team are one night from being as good as gold. Entering tonight's final night of racing action Elite Racing hopes to bring the Gold Cup title back to his home state of California. After two nights of racing action, Meyers has scored two top-5 finishes and as a result enters the final night of racing action with the points lead and the pole position for the feature event.

On the second night of the Gold Cup, Meyers started the evening by qualifying 6th. Then after the dash invert, "Hot Foot" raced back to the 6th position, to secure that starting position for the feature. In the feature, Meyers fell back at the start with several consecutive caution flags slowing racing action.

When the race finally got its first long Green Flag run, Meyers took advantage of it and climbed back to his original starting spot. After the final Red Flag of the evening on Lap 17, Meyers worked his way into the top-five and stayed there. Meyers would battle Joey Saldana for the 4th position, but at the end of the evening Meyers would have to settle for a 5th place finish.

After the second night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, Jason Meyers sits in the top spot in the Gold Cup point standings by two markers over Jason Sides. As a result Meyers will start from the pole position for the 57th running of the Gold Cup. Tonight Meyers will be looking to add his name to the illustrious list of race champions.

"It is going to be an exciting night right down to the end," Meyers said. "Last night I promised to the fans in the grandstands I would do my best to bring, not only the Gold Cup home to California, but the points championship. Last night was a good run for us and put us in a great position for tonight. Tonight we are going to have to put the hammer down and stay up front and put a little breathing room between me and the field. We are racing some of the best guys in the world at what they do. It is going to be important to stay up front and stay out of trouble tonight. We have a great car for tonight and Glen (Beaton) and Brian (Bloomfield) have been doing a great job. We have the best starting spot for tonight and we are going to do our best to stay there."
