DAYTONA, Fla., June 30, 2000 - PepsiCo, Inc., stepped into the fast lane today, announcing a five-year agreement with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports involving all three of its divisions: Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay and Tropicana. For the past four years, Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay have enjoyed a successful relationship with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports, highlighted by their associate sponsorship of the #24 DuPont Chevrolet in the Winston Cup Series and their two-year title sponsorship of Gordon's #24 Pepsi Chevrolet on the Busch Series. Under the new agreement, which begins in 2001, Gordon will race the #24 Pepsi car in two Winston Cup races per season, marking the first time Pepsi has raced a car in the Winston Cup Series since 1983. Pepsi also will continue to work with Gordon, a three-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion, on promotional activities and as a major associate sponsor of the #24 DuPont car. Since 1998, Gordon has starred in three television commercials for Pepsi's flagship brand. Frito-Lay and its Fritos brand will sponsor the Pepsi car in its Winston Cup races and will continue to work with Gordon on promotional activities and as a major associate sponsor of the #24 DuPont car. The new agreement will give Tropicana the opportunity to work with Gordon for the first time. "We're looking forward to extending an already great relationship with PepsiCo," said Gordon. "I had a ton of fun racing the Pepsi car in the Busch series and it's going to be exciting for all race fans to see a Pepsi car in the Winston Cup next year. If it's anything like my latest Pepsi commercial, my only worry is that Hallie and her grandpa might catch me on their bike." "Through this partnership extension with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports, PepsiCo will bring the excitement of racing and the popularity of Jeff Gordon to race fans all over the country," said Katie Lacey, director of sports marketing for Pepsi-Cola Company. "Jeff is one of the most personable, dedicated and talented drivers on the circuit. He's a delight to work with." "Thanks to Jeff's all-out enthusiasm for Fritos, we're thrilled to continue our successful partnership," said Regan Ebert, Fritos' Product Manager. "Together, we look forward to bringing race fans the ultimate excitement of racing matched by the ultimate snack experience of Fritos." "Pepsi has been a big part of the Hendrick Motorsports family since 1997 and we've enjoyed a tremendous amount of success together," HMS President John Hendrick said. "We're excited and proud to expand our relationship with PepsiCo and look forward to many more trips to Victory Lane in the years ahead." Pepsi has been involved with Winston Cup racing since NASCAR introduced the sport in 1948. Pepsi serves its products at 16 of the 21 Winston Cup Series tracks and is the title sponsor of NASCAR Winston Cup Series races in Daytona, Fla. (Pepsi 400), Brooklyn, Mich. (Pepsi 400) and Darlington, S.C. (Pepsi Southern 500).
