The project is the labor of love of former film director James Glickenhaus, who made his fortune by continuing the Glickenhaus & Co family finance company set up by his father Seth.
Glickenhaus' real passion is in Hyper and Concept cars and his new racing creation comes after an earlier project which saw him develop a Ferrari F430 into the P4/5 Competizione and race at the 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hours.
This car saw a blossoming relationship develop between Glickenhaus and the legendary Pinninfarina design house. The racing version followed on from a road going design.
The freshly designed SCG003 (Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus), that made its debut on the track late last year got more valuable miles last week.
The design was masterminded by Glickenhaus' project manager Paolo Garella, who worked as a project engineer at Pinninfarina for 16 years between 1992-2009, before becoming a consultant.
The plans for the SCG003 gained momentum when another Paolo - former Peugeot LMP designer Paolo Catone began work on the carbon chassis early last year.
Aero and bodywork design is believed to have been overseen by the Granstudio in Turin with a team directed by Lowie Vermeersch, who was designer director at Pinninfarina between 2007 and 2010. The engine of the SCG003is believed, but not confirmed, to be a Honda 3.5-litre V6.
The first sale of a Glickenhaus SCG003 car was completed at the beginning of this year to former Ferrari Challenge racer Christopher Ruud, who tested the car for the first time at Motorland Aragon last week.
The Milwaukee-based lighting entrepreneur plans to race the car across Europe with TUSC driver and Sears Point based racing instructor - Jeff Westphal.
It remains to be seen what the car will be homologated as. Glickenhaus is known to be close to Stephane Ratel but it remains to be seen if it will be allowed to race in any SRO events. The car will be officially launched this Thursday at the Geneva Motor Show.
