CHAMPCAR/CART: Fontana Roger Penske Still Looking for 100th Win

As the 1998 Fedex Championship Series moves to the California Speedway for the season-ending Marlboro 500, Marlboro Team Penske drivers Andre Ribeiro and Al Unser Jr. will attempt to score the 100th Indy car race victory for team owner Roger Penske. Currently, Penske Racing holds the record for most race wins with 99 victories in 407 races (24.3%) for a total of 844 starts (11.7%).

Newman-Haas Racing, the second winningest team in Indy car racing has 53 victories, followed by Patrick Racing with 39.

Unser Jr. and Ribeiro join such legendary drivers as Rick Mears, Al and Bobby Unser, Emerson Fittipaldi, Danny Sullivan, Mario Andretti, Paul Tracy, Tom Sneva, Gary Bettenhausen and Mark Donohue in achieving the record-setting victories. The Teams first win came in 1971 when Mark Donohue won the Pocono 500 in his Sunoco Special McLaren/Drake Offenhauser.
