Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Gears Up For Milwaukee
After some ups and downs last weekend in Texas, the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team has regrouped and is prepared for the seventh round of the IZOD IndyCar Series this weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Piloting the DRR machines for the Milwaukee 225 event will be Brit Justin Wilson in the No. 22 Dad's Root Beer entry and Brazilian Ana Beatriz, who will be driving the No. 24 Ipiranga machine.
After a one-year absence, the IZOD IndyCar series and DRR will return to the historic Milwaukee track. This weekend will mark Dreyer & Reinbold Racing's 7th time to compete at the one-mile oval. The team has started at least one car in every race at the track since 2004. In 2008, Buddy Rice and Townsend Bell finished team best of 10th and 11th. DRR has led a total of 37 laps at The Milwaukee Mile.
Rookie, Ana Beatriz proved two weeks ago that she was officially ready to take on the famed Milwaukee oval. The Brazilian, was the second quickest overall out of all the cars that tested at the Mile, and she is ready to continue that momentum with her new engineer Matt Curry. The duo gelled well in Texas last weekend as Bia competed at Texas Motor Speedway for the first time securing 22nd place in both races.
Beatriz will be making her second appearance to The Mile, but her first in the top level of the sport. In 2008, she made her first start where she started 21st and finished 19th in the Firestone Indy Lights Series. Last year, in the four IZOD IndyCar starts that she made, three of them were on an oval. The rookie's best finish on an oval was 21st for this year and last year's Indianapolis 500. Beatriz's best starting position on an oval was 15th in Miami last year and in the second Texas race this year. She is ready to take on the one mile oval. After a very successful test two weeks ago in Milwaukee, Beatriz is ready to continue the momentum.
After a tough weekend in Texas, Wilson is fully prepared and ready to get back to familiar ground in Milwaukee. The historic track is a circuit the Brit has frequented many times before. This weekend will be the Brit's sixth time to compete at the one-mile oval. He made his first start at Milwaukee in 2004 competing in the Champ Car World Series where he finished in 11th place. In 2005, he finished 4th and in 2006 he led for 61 laps and finished in 2nd place, earning his best result at Milwaukee. Wilson made his return to the famed circuit in 2008 when he joined the IZOD IndyCar Series. He started 22nd and finished 7th and in 2009 he started and finished 15th in his fifth start at this track. Since joining the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2008, Wilson has recorded seven top-10 finishes (2008: Kansas-9th, Milwaukee-7th, Richmond-7th, 2009: Chicagoland-10th, Homestead-10th, 2010: Indianapolis-7th, Chicago-7th) on ovals. He has led on an oval twice, (2008--Kansas led for five laps, 2010-Indianapolis 500-led for 11 laps). Wilson's best qualifying position on an oval was 6th position at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2010.
Like his teammate, Wilson tested in Milwaukee with the team a couple of weeks ago. He was the fifth quickest at the test and the Englishman really meshed with his new engineer, Yves Touron, at the test and in Texas. The duo is ready to come back strong for Sunday's event.
As DRR gears up for the weekend the team couldn't be happier to have The Dad's Root Beer machine back in action for Sunday's race in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The No. 22 Dad's Root Beer car will make its 2011 debut on Father's (Dad's) Day at the famed Milwaukee Mile oval track for The Milwaukee 225. This weekend's event will mark the third straight year that the Jasper, Indiana based The Dad's Root Beer Company will be featured on a Dreyer & Reinbold Racing IZOD IndyCar on Father's Day. Sunday's race will mark the first time that DRR driver Justin Wilson will get behind the wheel of the recognizable and popular blue, red and yellow livery. In addition to debuting the Dad's Root Beer car for this weekend's race, Dreyer Reinbold Racing plans on decorating the No. 22 pit wall with "Happy Dad's Day" banners in celebration of Father's Day.
For the last two years the Dad's car has finished in the Top 10 on Father's Day. In 2009 Mike Conway drove the Dad's No. 24 to an 8th place finish at the Iowa Corn 250. Last season, Graham Rahal, who filled in for the injured Mike Conway, piloted the specially designed Dad's Hot Wheels No. 24 machine to a 9th place result on Father's Day, also at Iowa.
It will be a meaningful Father's Day weekend for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in Milwaukee. Not only will Dad's Root Beer be back on the No.22 car, but DRR will be paying tribute to a father/son combination on the team. They are Larry Curry, general manager and competition director, and his son Matt Curry, engineer on the No.24 Ipiranga machine.
