The Indy 500 audition

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy 500 serves as a place where champions can become legends and where careers are made as young guns try to bust through that glass ceiling. Conor Daly is one of those who has one chance to make a name for himself and it's in this race.

One shot

"This is my one shot, my SuperBowl, my NBA Playoffs - My everything."

"I know that and I'm excited about it because it's a great opportunity. We're getting better with every run and I'm becoming more comfortable. We just have to keep executing and have to do the best with what we got."

In regards to the high stakes of this race and how Sunday's performance could make or break ones career, "The pressure is not something I think about. I'm just going to use this opportunity the best I can. No mistakes, just do your job - That's the plan."

The passing of the torch

After pushing for a career in Formula One with two GP3 victories to show for it, the American has shifted his focus more towards IndyCar. At the start of 2015, he drove the series' two-seater car before replacing an injured Rocky Moran Jr. at Long Beach for Dale Coyne Racing. He finished 17th in just his second career IndyCar start and first since the 2013 Indy 500.

"We're approaching the ends of a few guys' careers here. There needs to be a new generation coming through and I think we see that with Sage, Josef, Gabby, and hopefully me."

"It's really important for teams to get those young drivers in cars for more than a year. I hated to see what happened with Vautier. He was Lights champion, had one year and then he's out. You have to give the young guys time. We saw with Josef, in his fourth year he wins and he's going to win more."

"But for me, this is my only shot and I've been going at it the best I absolutely can, doing every lap to the best of my ability. I'm kind of on that edge of this is it, this is all I got."

Daly will start the 500 from the inside of row eight in the 22nd position, driving the No. 43 Honda for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
