SCCA Club Racing National Season Begins This Weekend
TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 3, 2008) -- Shine up your helmet, mount those tires and hitch up the trailer, the 2008 Sports Car Club of America Club National racing season kicks off this weekend.
The Central Florida Region hosts the first Club National race of the year, Jan. 5 -- 6, at Sebring International Raceway, where 277 drivers are entered, including an astounding 55 Spec Racer Fords. Defending Formula Mazda Champion James Goughary will be in attendance, along with Formula Ford Champion John Robinson II, who is entered in Formula Continental as well. >From the Solo realm, Super Stock National Champion Ian Stewart will give Club Racing a try in Showroom Stock C.
Homestead-Miami Speedway hosts the next event, Jan. 11 -- 13, a Double National run by the Florida Region. Robinson and Goughary make the trip down state and are joined by another champion, Andrew Aquilante, who will begin his Touring 1 crown defense. Stewart meanwhile, jumps from SSC to Touring 3 at Homestead.
The Arizona Region keeps the racing coming with the Sand and Surf Double National at Phoenix International Raceway, Jan. 19 -- 21. Jamie Galles, former Toyota Atlantic driver, Trans-Am winner and son of famous IndyCar team owner Rick Galles, is entered in a T1 Corvette.
