As a prelude to the iconic 47th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, 30 of the world’s top racers are heading to Las Vegas for the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying, presented by BFGoodrich Tires. It will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, on a special 3.6-mile track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
With the top qualifier receiving the Method Race Wheels $2,500 Fastest Qualifier Award, 24 SCORE Trophy Trucks and six Class 1 open-wheel race cars have confirmed participation in the optional qualifying for starting positions within their respective classes. The race, which will have a record course of approximately 1,280 miles, will be a peninsula run down Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula starting in Ensenada, Baja California Norte and finishing in La Paz, Baja California Sur. The race and surrounding festivities will be held Nov. 11-15.
The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying, presented by BFGoodrich Tires and featuring the Method Race Wheels $2,500 Fastest Qualifier Award, is part of the massive celebratory SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience that will be a spotlight attraction Nov. 4-7 during the annual SEMA Show trade gathering at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
With the qualifying lap starting and finishing inside the off-road track at LVMS, free tickets are available for the event on a limited, first-come, first-served basis. Advance free tickets (with a maximum of four per person) are available while supplies last, through Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the popular 4 Wheel Parts store, located at 4740 South Decatur Blvd., Suite A, in Las Vegas. SEMA Show attendees and exhibitors will also be admitted with their show credential.
Track will be dirt and asphalt -- and dark
The 3.6-mile qualifying course at LVMS will incorporate off-road, dirt and asphalt elements, utilize two race courses, and require the drivers to use their lights and qualify in the darkness of the Las Vegas night.
On Nov. 4 after a 2:30 p.m. (PT) media conference and racer meet and greet at the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience area, all 30 of the qualifying vehicles will start their engines in unison at 4:30 p.m. (PT) at the SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience to begin a procession of the high-flying racing machines to the LVMS Off-Road Track.
“We can’t thank SEMA enough for this incredible opportunity to showcase SCORE and the world’s greatest desert racers,” said Roger Norman, CEO of SCORE. “And the special SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a fitting tribute to the legacy of the Granddaddy of all Desert Races."
