G-Drive Racing is targeting another victory in Asia!

In Japan G-Drive Racing clinched its third victory in LM P2 in 2014 giving the Ligier JS P2 its maiden win. Since June the Onroak Automotive closed prototype has already scored several pole positions and top-3 finishes and, after a great race, the no. 26 Ligier JS P2-Nissan took the chequered flag in the Fuji 6 Hours in first place in the LM P2 category. This victory has helped G-Drive Racing close the gap to the current leader, SMP Racing, to 16 points in the overall LM P2 classification.

The layout of the 5.451-km Shanghai circuit is a technical and twisty one with no fewer than 16 corners. It will be the theatre of the sixth of the eight rounds counting for the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship, and a field of 29 cars will do battle in the 6-hour race.

Olivier Pla-Roman Rusinov-Julien Canal at the wheel of the Ligier JS P2-Nissan shod with Dunlop tyres were unbeatable in the Japanese event. The three drivers are arriving at the Shanghai circuit with the same rage to win, and they are absolutely determined to set the maximum number of pole positions and score the maximum number of victories in the last three rounds of the 2014 season. G-Drive Racing and its drivers have their eyes firmly set on the FIA LM P2 Endurance Trophy.

The Chinese round of the FIA WEC has attracted a rich, full field of seven prototypes with five different chassis powered by the three different engines homologated by the FIA/ACO LM P2 regulations. Among its new rivals G-Drive Racing will have to watch out for the OAK Racing Morgan-Judd LM P2 and the two HPD-Hondas entered by the Extreme Sport Competition team, which has joined the world championship trail after the end of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship.

After its victories at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Fuji another win by G-Drive Racing would be all the more prestigious.

Roman Rusinov: “I am happy that we could clinch a good victory in Fuji with our new car - the battle was really great. A big thanks to KCMG for a clean and professional race. We are very close to the championship leaders and we will continue to work as hard as we can to make it. And for sure we are welcome Extreme Speed Motorsport, an additional LM P2 team.”

Olivier Pla: “The Shanghai circuit is a very technical and very interesting one, which I know pretty well having raced here in the last two years in the OAK Racing Morgan LM P2. It’s not easy to find the right setup to be quick on the long straight and in the corners that tighten up; you’re also braking under load which requires a stable car. Although it’s a track that’s very hard on tyres we know we’ll be well armed with our Dunlops.

Our Ligier JS P2 is very competitive as we confirmed in Japan in the last round. We’ve had a very intense development programme with this car and we’re learning and improving at each race. We want to continue the momentum from Fuji and clinch pole and victory in China!”

Julien Canal: “We’ve got a single aim – victory in the championship! We’ve analysed our race at Fuji and we’ve still got a few things to improve to be even stronger. The Ligier JS P2 is very competitive and it can help us to clinch the title. Personally, I’m going to be training on the simulator for the last three races. We want to stack all the odds in our favour.”
