Former V8 Supercars driver Johnson has driven Bowe’s Mustang at three Touring Car Masters rounds so far this year, winning eight races in a row.
He stepped aside to let TV commentator Neil Crompton at the last round at Sydney Motorsport Park, but is set to get back behind the wheel of the Mustang at Mount Panorama this weekend.
“I have to admit I was a little jealous seeing Neil Crompton drive out of the pits each race at Sydney Motorsport Park!” Johnson said.
“Bathurst is a magic place and every racer wants to race there – it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve raced there you never come away feeling like you’ve mastered it. Thanks to JB and his crew, it’s an awesome experience running with his team.
“It’s going to be very tough against JB, he was very fast last outing and the regular TCM field will be strong, too. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Bowe will continue to race the Holden Torana that he first campaigned at Winton earlier this year.
While the deal means Johnson will get to race at Bathurst, he won’t be suiting up for the Bathurst 1000. The veteran failed to pick up a co-driver gig, meaning he’ll miss The Great Race for the first time since 1993.
