Dramatic day at the mountain for TeamVodafone
It was a day of highs and lows for TeamVodafone at Mount Panorama with Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife finishing the "Great Race" second. Teammates Jamie Whincup and Andrew Thompson were dealt a devestating blow, an alternator issue ending their chances of a race victory.
With eight pitstops and a lot of lost time queuing, Lowndes put on the drive of the decade and took the battle to race leader Garth Tander in the dying stages of the race. Gaining five seconds in the closing 7-laps, the crowd at Mount Panorama were willing him to match Tander on the line but it wasn't to be.
After a faultless performance from both pilots who lead today's race for 85-laps the car #88 TeamVodafone Commodore took the chequered flag 21st.
At the conclusion of Race 20 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series Craig Lowndes has taken the championship points lead and sits 100 points clear of team-mate Jamie Whincup.
TeamVodafone will now turn their focus to the final endurance race of the season, the Armor All Gold Coast 600 which will see Sebastien Bordais and Andy Priaulx join the team on the streets of Surfers Paradise from the October 21-23.
