Donny Schatz and the No. 15 Armor All/ParkerStore/J&J team scored their third consecutive second-place finish Friday night in the World of Outlaws (WoO) event at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway. Rain washed out Saturday's scheduled event at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo.
Kraig Kinser and the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Maxim team finished 15th in Friday's race at Paducah International Raceway.
Schatz continues to lead the WoO Sprint Series standings while Kinser ranks 10th in the championship standings.
TSR's WoO Sprint Series teams return to the track this weekend with single-night programs at Riverside International Speedway in W. Memphis, Ark., on Friday night and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.
POST-RACE QUOTES & NOTES:
Donny Schatz, driver of the No. 15 Armor All/Chevy/ParkerStore/J&J for TSR:
"We're still pushing hard but coming up just a bit short. The only thing we can do is keep digging each night. On Friday night, the Tony Stewart Racing crew did a good job all night long. We were able to win our heat race and had luck go our way with the draw for the dash. The Armor All car was really fast late in the feature, but some things didn't go our way.
"The yellow- and red-flag stoppages (during the 30-lap feature) really hurt us. Our car normally goes well on the long runs. I guess second is a fair result, but it's not what we wanted. Right after the race, I was pretty disappointed. I know how hard everyone involved with this team is working. We want to win to every night, and it's been a little while since our last victory. Hopefully, next week we can climb back on top of the mountain.
"We're in good shape. We just need to keep rolling. I'm proud of my guys (Rick Warner and Shane Bowers). Every night, they give me a car that will go anywhere on the track. It will go on the top, bottom or middle. In the long run, all of their efforts will pay off."
Kraig Kinser, driver of the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/Chevy/J.D. Byrider/Maxim for TSR:
"The weekend could have gone better for us, that's for sure. It was our first weekend in the Midwest and we were hoping for a couple of good nights to build on. Unfortunately, things didn't go our way on Friday night and Mother Nature took care of us on Saturday.
"So far this season, we've been consistently qualifying in a good position. Sometimes out here (with the World of Outlaws), the pill draw really determines your night. We drew a later number and the track was definitely better for the guys who went out early. I think only one of the last dozen cars that timed in cracked the top-16. We just missed it with being 19th. That pretty much put us behind the rest of the night. We started fifth in our heat and couldn't get into the dash by finishing second.
"The Bass Pro Shops crew (Mike Cool, Steve Swenson and Bob Curtis) put a good car under me in the feature. I had to pick my spots to try and move forward. The preferred line early was high on the cushion, but you had to go where the guys in front of you weren't, so I tried to make the bottom work. We seemed to get a little better as the race went on but never were able to really get close enough to challenge for the top-10.
"That's why the rainout on Saturday was so disappointing. We've had some success at I-55 Raceway and were hoping to get there and put a good night together for Bass Pro Shops, Chevy and J.D. Byrider. We'll have to come back this weekend and see what we can do in Memphis and Haubstadt."
