LAWRENCEBURG, IN - Chad Kemenah picked the right time to win his first All Star feature in the 17th Annual Hoosier Fall Classic 50-lap main Saturday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Kemenah's win was worth $10,000 out of the $33,830 purse and came over Kenny Jacobs and local hotshoe Kevin Briscoe.

"My brother and I talked about it and said 'we need to be around the top'. I got tired of following the leader and went down low and stuck and I thought 'I better try this for a while," Kemenah said of his strategy of moving to the bottom of the track. "This is great, I'm kind of speechless. My brakes were getting a little warm from running around the bottom. And the driver didn't even spin out tonight," he concluded, referring to an Attica loss earlier this season. He drove the Jim Harble, UUI Utilities sponsored Gambler with Kistler-Chevy power, on Goodyear tires.

Boston Reid started on the ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment Hot Seat pole position with Butch Schroeder outside him. Schroeder grabbed the initial lead over Reid and fourth starter Danny Smith. Smith snared second on lap three and went high around Schroeder to lead lap six after battling with Schroeder for three laps. Smith then led until a lap nine restart when Schroeder was just ahead by a nose when the yellow appeared.

Schroeder led when the green came back out, with Smith second and Jacobs third. Jacobs took over second on lap 12 on the front stretch, and began pressuring Schroeder. Meanwhile Saldana was working Smith for third as the leaders moved into lapped traffic. At lap 20, Schroeder and Jacobs were nose to tail and it took Jacobs another three laps to take the lead for good with a low groove move down the back stretch. Kemenah moved into second on lap 24 after starting tenth and discovering the inside groove. He began reeling in Jacobs, and by lap 26 the pair were side by side. Jacobs dropped to the lower groove to try and block Kemenah, and it was a cat and mouse game through heavy lapped traffic. Jacobs pulled away a bit in the clear by lap 30 as 13th starting Briscoe moved into third over Schroeder.

As the laps wound down, Kemenah was getting faster in the low groove, and was right on the leader with 10 laps to go. The lead duo were nose to tail on lap 43 and side by side in turn two, with Kemenah going under Jacobs to lead lap 44.

"I guess I didn't stay on the bottom and I should have," Jacobs said. "I saw a lapped car underneath me one lap and it was a blue car, Kasey Kahne, so when I saw Chad I thought it was Kasey and I didn't crowd him because I didn't want a lapped car to run into me but, heck, it was Chad."

So Kemenah had the lead and drove away from Jacobs for his first All Star win. Briscoe was thrilled with third.

"The Briscoe Mobile Homes, Hoosier Tire, Afco Shock Stealth car was really hooked up, Briscoe related. To run third with these guys, we're just really happy. We're using a five year old Kinser motor."

Saldana held on for fourth, ahead of Alvin Roepke, up from 12th, and Rodney Duncan. Smith finished seventh, earning the "Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven" award ahead of Paul McMahan, Derek Scheffel and Dean Jacobs.

K. Jacobs has clinched the 1999 All Star driver's championship, And just by signing in at Eldora Speedway on Oct. 2 will clinch the owner's title as well.

The United Expressline heat fell to fast qualifier Kenny Jacobs, the Southwest Expressline heat to Paul McMahan, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Saldana, the United Specialties heat went to Derek Scheffel and the second United Expressline heat went to Dean Jacobs. Butch Schroeder won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash Greg Wilson with the United Expressline B Main winner. Scott Simion won the Georgia Marketing & Promotions C Main. Frankie Kerr took a nasty end-over-end flip after jumping the cushion in time trials. He was okay but done for the night. Gary Wright left early after heat race problems. Eric Davis barrel rolled in the B but was also okay.

In the 20 lap UMP Modified main, Gary Burton won over Joshua Shaw, Greg Beem, Shane Mugavin, Doug Wethington and Jerry Back.
